Extreme Democracy
Did you hear me on the "These Days" earlier this week, dear readers? I hope you did, as it was fun being on the show with Alma! We talked about what could be the end of the race for the main party seats, among other topics. Overall, I'm happy with how it turned out.
But, let's face it, American politics is a bit tame, compared to other places.
The worst thing we have is controversy over using Obama's middle name. A little silly, really, when people can buy 'Obama Bin Laden' shirts on the internet already. Is this a sign of what is to come in the coming weeks? I sure hope not.
But, over in Russia, as they are also dealing with a presidential election, we have Vladimir Zhirinovsky! Ah, this candidate is quite interesting. Two weeks ago, he was in a debate with one of the party members. Thanks to a friend from Russia, I know what they are saying.
The video starts with the representative of the party going over his allotted time in the debate. When the moderator doesn't step in, Zhirinovsky gets livid and takes over the debate.
He begins criticizing the party's intelligence repeatedly, and swears up and down the man is too feeble-minded to be in the same room as Zhirinovsky. At one point, he even criticizes that the candidate himself is not here, and is instead in Washington. Zhirinovsky's reply to this is that it makes as much sense as Hillary Clinton coming to Moscow to run for office.
But the part that just tickles my fancy and makes me all giddy inside comes at the end.
Zhirinovsky starts to order the representative to leave, and starts punching and shoving at him to go. Finally, Zhirinovsky yells to his bodyguards, "Take him out to the hallway and shoot him! Just shoot him for being so stupid!"
Now, this is not democracy. This is EXTREME Democracy! Could you imagine something like this happening in American primaries? How much more interesting it could be if someone would react this way?
I would LOVE it! We need excitement like this in our campaign races! So, political movers and shakers, bring us some entertainment!
Show us you're REAL people with REAL emotions, and not just mindless drones that are repeating the same things time and time again. And if you don't like the idea of politicians being REAL people, I'll have my bodyguards take you out to the hallway and shoot you... dirty looks.
