Grumpy Old Men
I can't help but think that Republicans would like to have "do overs." This is the sorriest presidential campaign that I have ever witnessed. John McCain has managed to parlay his war hero status into a political career for the last 20 years, but this time the stakes are too high. Can we really afford to have such an angry, rancorous man the White House?
His repeated assertions that Obama "would
rather lose a war than lose an election," make McCain look like some
sort of Archie
Bunker throwback, only we knew that Archie was a sitcom character, not a
candidate for president of the United States.
Can you imagine if he were to carry this bilious
behavior to the international arena, leading by testy insinuation. Pretty scary stuff considering the
memory lapses, coupled with his computer illiteracy, in the age of global
media. Does John McCain even grasp
the significance of his deficiency in 21st century skills? I think not or he would never have copped to it.
By the way Senator McCain, what would "winning" in Iraq look like? If the country is "stabilized" and they want us out, what can be gained by continuing the nightmare. Recently you have stated, " I know how to win wars." Which war was that, sir? My own father, who served four tours in Vietnam, wore a T-shirt, at home, that read "Southeast Asian War Games Participant -- 2nd Place". So surely you don't mean Vietnam.
As Trey Ellis advised Senator McCain on the Huffington Post blog, "Instead of trying to get us to believe that a calm, charming, educated man is actually craven, ignorant and traitorous, try telling Americans how you'd plan on righting this listing ship of state."
While Barack Obama's campaign moves forward with great vitality, from his successful trip abroad to building a non-partisan team of economists to address the economic woes, Team McCain continues to rehash the same old venomous assertions against Obama. I have scoured the texts of Obama's overseas speeches and nowhere did I see him even mention John McCain. I also saw that he refused to criticize President Bush because he stated that it was not appropriate for him to comment on a sitting president while in a foreign country. Obama continues to show wisdom and restraint in his leadership, something McCain is apparently unable to do.

He’s amazing to watch… he was on Cspan at a rally.. with his own followers.. and the microphone took a bit of time to get to a questioner.. and he said, “Sorry, some of our help is on the work release program.. they’re a bit slower than most.”.. or words very close to those…
I guess if he wins we can still enjoy David Letterman’s “great moments in presidential speeches.”
Well said, Candace. I am still trying to reconcile how flying one’s plane into the path of an oncoming SAM missile makes one a “war hereo.”
John Mc Cain certainly endured horrific things in his seven years of captivity, but so ddi ten of my squadron mates. None of them have ever claimed to be a hero or would list it as part of the bona fides to make them fit to be President. The heroes in the war for second place are all dead.

I am very much in agreement with most of your comments. But, what I really want to know is where can I get a t-shirt like your father’s?

I guess you will have to have a t-shirt made, Chip. The one in the picture is about 35 years old. I think it was given to my father by a fellow Naval officer sometime around March ‘73. When my father died in 1990 (from agent orange related cancer) it was one of the keepsakes I saved and packed away for posterity.
