Clinton or Obama: How To Choose?
My friend Jessica just sent me to Rebecca Traister's brilliant article today in Salon, where she writes so well of the difficulty choosing between Clinton or Obama. It's a must read for anyone - particularly women - struggling with their choice hours before Super Tuesday. It's like Traister crawled into my head, gathered up all of my anxieties, made sense of so much, added nuance and reflection, and eloquently wrote it all down. I have so many friends who feel the same about their vote tomorrow.
This is the toughest voting decision I've had to make so far -- and the most inspiring. Choosing between a woman and an African-American man. Months into the campaign, I still think, "wow, these are my choices." I'm tortured for many reasons about my vote, but so grateful that we are at this juncture.

I couldn’t agree more, that article spoke to me. I voted for Obama, but now I’m feeling like I turned my back on the idea I had as a child that one day a woman could be president. It was a truly difficult choice, in part because I felt like for once it mattered.
I wrote a blog post this morning that included the same article. When I read it on Sunday night, I wondered if Rebecca Traister hadn’t been eavesdropping on my internal conflict. The months ahead are sure to be fascinating…
OH, NO!!! Stop the file transfers! I thought this space was supposed to be a culture-blog, not a poli-blog...surely the presence of those are rampant on the web without having to reorient this one.
I agree that this is both a historically extraordinary and a fabulous time for Americans and for American politics – one that will change the tenor and the course of American politics for the rest of our lives. However, the “best president for this country is not a woman and nor is it a black (or any other color) man…it is the best PERSON that we need more than anything else – a person that can both lead and represent ALL of us in a diplomatic and conscientious manner throughout their term in office.
Vote for the person that you truly feel to be the best for our country at this time and age. Dig deep down into your soul and heart and the answer will be there.
