Sunroad Enterprises has agreed to reduce the height of its 12-story Centrum building near Montgomery Field. The FAA says the building is too tall for planes to land safely. The city is enforcing that conclusion.
Now that Sunroad, the mayor, and the city attorney have all agreed to reduce the building height, how are they actually going to do it? You can't take a big pair of scissors to the top of the tower. Nicole and I are assigned to try to answer that question today. I'll let you know what the experts tell me.
Meanwhile, voiceofsandiego.org has a brilliant analysis of the topic.
"I've never heard of doing this before," said Christopher Kamp, president of the Structural Engineers Association of San Diego. "I've heard of adding on top. Usually you don't reduce square footage."
